Today I painted a custom mural for Brydon, and based on her ideas and color choices she got exactly what she wanted. It was particularly enjoyable and special because we painted it together!
She informed me that she loved butterflies and fairies. We came up with a simple graphic design based on images we found and then she asked for her favorite colors: blue, green and pink. After the images were painted we added glitter paint for fun as fairy dust.
I spend most of my time painting murals for others, but one day I realized I wanted something for myself! I started by researching quotes with “love” or “dream” because I knew I wanted this mural to act as my headboard, and because I wanted it to be all typography. I quickly came across this quote and knew it was the one.
It didn’t take me long to sketch up the letters and start painting. The only hard part was erasing any marks that I didn’t end up using, but luckily I had the original wall color handy.
All in all I think it came out well. I’m happy with it and that’s all that matters! Let me know what you think.
Check out my new work on display at the Fleckenstein Gallery. It will be up through May 19th. Do lunch in Hampden with a friend and then stop by to see the show!
It’s that time of year again!
Atelier x 8 is a new show coming up on April 14th at the Fleckenstein Gallery in Hampden. The reception will take place that night from 5-8pm, and the show will be open through May 18th, Tuesday – Saturday. It features the work of Nancy Scheinman, Nicole Parker, Christina Barrerra, Ricardo Contreras, Laura Judkis, Garrett Ames-Ledbetter, Kristie Winther and myself.
The show features all the artists that currently work at NS Studios, the Baltimore based design company that I work for, specializing in design, murals and installations. As artists we have developed a unique working relationship, sharing collaborative ideas, techniques and experiences. This exhibit showcases our individual talents and creative visions.
Hope you get a chance to make it in!
Here’s a quick piece I drew by hand with pen + ink for my cousin’s baby room. Hand lettering has quick become something I realize I enjoy very much and I hope to have projects like this more often!
Check out the NS Studios nomination for the Baker Artist Awards and browse the diverse portfolio of work we have created! I am so proud of all that our crew has accomplished.
New work is up at the Fleckenstein Gallery! If you are around Hampden checking out the 34th street lights or holiday shopping, just pop into the gallery to sneak a peak.
